It is also the one stretch of the Strand split between two counties: the north end and the Garden City peninsula’s Horry County side on one hand, the south end and the rest of the Waccamaw Neck in Georgetown County on the other.

The housing is villas and condos along the inlet, golf-course condo communities such as the villas at International Club and Marcliffe at Blackmoor, and single-family neighborhoods built from the 1970s through the 1990s and again in the last decade. South of the inlet, Litchfield Beach is a Georgetown County community of 8,370 people about three miles north of Pawleys Island, started in the 1950s as Retreat Beach with modern development from the 1960s; Litchfield by the Sea and North Litchfield are within it, and their villas and beach houses are on the same route.

What fails on Murrells Inlet doors

Inlet-front villas get salt air off the marsh, so the classic failures show up: pitted aluminum tracks, rusted roller bearings, seized mortise locks. The fix is the standard track cap and rollers, and because most inlet villas are two or three stories, access is simple and the price sits low in the range.

Design wind speeds for Georgetown County run about 130 to 150 mph, so oceanfront Litchfield and the inlet-front are in the region; inland addresses depend on the code’s wind map.

Rinse tracks and exterior hardware with fresh water after windy weeks, vacuum the sand out monthly in season, keep the sill drains clear, and use dry silicone only. Fix a dragging door the first month; on the inlet the rail is often still good then, and the job stays at the low end of the range.
